Tuition must be paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
Tuition is due on the first of each month Kumon North America charges our center for a full month even if a student only studies one day in the month.
Tuition is not prorated for absence and vacations. Students are given work for those days.
Please note that students may be absent from Kumon study for one month per calendar year. If a student is absent for more than one month from Kumon study, a registration fee will be charged, and new placement tests will be administered. This is per Kumon’s National policy. We can hold a student’s spot with half tuition if more than one month absence is requested.
Tuition, once paid, is not refundable or transferrable to siblings.
For any returned checks, a charge of $25 will be added when reprocessing occurs.
Cancellation requires at least one full calendar month WRITTEN notice before discontinuing or any changes in enrollment. If a cancellation request is submitted on the 15th or later, the student’s final day would be the last day of the following month and tuition would be charged for the entirety of that month. Payment in full for the next calendar month will occur upon withdrawal.
Two week notice is required for an absent month or planned absence.
The center aims to provide a positive and quiet learning environment to all students. Students, parents, and siblings are expected to be courteous and well behaved while attending class. We have a zero-tolerance policy for rude behavior.
On the first day of class, students will be supplied with a pencil, eraser, and Kumon pouch. Their Kumon pouch will carry their homework to and from the center every class period.
If, for any reason, a student is unable to attend class, please send an email to [email protected] or text us at 616.363.2880 as soon as possible so we can make homework arrangements. We have a box available outside the center for 24/7 pick-up. If the student is ill and didn’t attend school, we ask that the student please refrain from coming to the center.
Parents should complete an “Absence Notification Form” two weeks prior to the absence. Please indicate the dates of absence and any adjustments requested for the student’s workload. We encourage students not to take breaks from their Kumon routine on long trips.
Regular communication is important for successful Kumon study. If you would like to schedule a conference, please email us at [email protected].
In order to focus on students, the Center phone will not consistently be answered during class hours. The center phone receives text messages and is checked frequently. All calls will be forwarded to voicemail. Please leave a voice mail and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Parents are encouraged to contact the center as soon as possible if their student is having trouble with their current homework.
One aspect of the Kumon method is to provide students with feedback and allow them an opportunity to identify and correct their mistakes. As they do this, they learn from those mistakes and are less likely to repeat them. While they are in the classroom, they will be expected to correct their worksheets to 100%.
Since corrections are an essential part of the Kumon method, we aim to have students complete corrections as frequently as possible. To do this, we grade all work that students complete. For best results, we ask that parents review the work after each assignment is complete. All work should have their name, date, and start and end time on the first page of the packet.
Classroom attendance is a vital part of the Kumon program. Observing students at work in class greatly assists in the planning process for that student. Students must arrive at the center a few minutes prior to their scheduled class time. We prefer to introduce new concepts in class in order to instruct the student in self-learning skills.
Parents are responsible for staying near the Center or being reachable by phone at all times while their child is in the Center. Students must be picked up as soon as they have completed their Kumon session. They may use the center telephone to call their parent/guardian when their work is completed.
If you are dropping off and picking up in front of the center, please refrain from blocking both sides of traffic and only pull up when your students’ time is complete. Our policy is that parents park in the parking lot and come in to retrieve their child when their class time is complete.
Kumon is a long-term, supplemental education program. Through thousands of hours of research, development, and experience with students across the globe, Kumon has evolved into the most successful program of its type.
To get the most out of the program, students, parents, and the instructor must work together for the benefit of the student. As such, it is important to set up a daily Kumon time at home that supports the learning process. With a quiet, focused learning environment, students should work to complete their homework from start to finish without stopping. Parent participation is an important part of the Kumon journey. Parents who review their students’ progress daily help students develop consistent study habits that will last a lifetime.
Together, we can help our students learn valuable work skills and grow into independent learners while mastering the skills of math and reading!
If you are interested in an online version of Kumon to accommodate scheduling difficulties or vacation, there is a tablet program that consists of handwritten work on an iPad or tablet. Kumon Connect allows for instructors to provide feedback anywhere in the world. An additional pamphlet and conversation will be provided on request.
